Outlander's Tobias Menzies has played down the possibility of a return as Frank or 'Black Jack' Randall.

It's been more than five years since Menzies last appeared in the Starz historical time-travel drama, and speaking to TVLine, he said that there were no plans for him to feature in the eighth and final season.

"What am I allowed to say? It would be great. [But] no, you will not see me," he told the publication. "They're going to bring it home magnificently, I'm sure."

Back in 2021, Lucifer actor Tom Ellis revealed that he'd auditioned for the dual role of Frank and Black Jack before Menzies eventually landed it.

Speaking to Sam Heughan — who plays the heroic Scottish Highlander Jamie Fraser — for Square Mile, he shared at the time: "I'm going to let you into a little secret... I auditioned for Outlander, not for Jamie Fraser but for Tobias Menzies's part, 'Black Jack' Randall.

"I remember reading the script thinking, 'This is really good'."

Before Outlander season 8 is released, fans still have the second half of season 7 to gear up for. Last summer, executive producer Maril Davis exclusively told Digital Spy that it'll be "even more exciting" than its predecessor.

"The second half does not give you time to breathe," she added. "There are so many ups and down for everyone and so many life moments. I can't even put it into words – the second half is going to be even crazier than the first."

Outlander airs on Starz in the US, and streams on Lionsgate+ in the UK.
