The CW president Mark Pedowitz has defended the decision to axe The Tomorrow People.
Pedowitz - speaking as the network unveiled its 2014-15 schedule - insisted there was an "upside" to renewing the low-rated Beauty and the Beast instead.
"We're a very different style of broadcast network," he said. "We have situations where shows like Beauty have created upside potential - it's a fan favourite.
"Primarily, Tomorrow People was a great show - it just didn't have the same level of social engagement... that Beauty and the Beast gets."
The Tomorrow People - loosely based on the '70s series from the UK - was axed by The CW last week.
Prior to its cancellation, the show's star Robbie Amell suggested that it had a good shot at renewal due to its "established fan base" and international appeal.
