Doctor Who producer Russell T Davies has shared the first details about Millie Gibson's new companion Ruby Sunday.
The former Coronation Street star will be joining the BBC science-fiction series in the upcoming Christmas special 'The Church on Ruby Road', which, as the name suggests, will explore her origin.

In the latest edition of SFX Magazine, Davies confirmed that Ruby actually takes her name from the church because she was a foundling.
"It’s unashamedly the story of Ruby. It’s called 'The Church on Ruby Road' because that’s where the church is where Ruby was left as a baby in 2004," he revealed.
The writer then confirmed: "She’s named after that church. She’s a foundling, so no one knows who her mother or father is. She was named after the church on Ruby Road, which does carry over into the series itself.
"Not every question is answered in the Christmas special, and that continues all the way through to the most magnificent finale ever shot on planet Earth. No hype! I swear that’s true."
Davies also assured potential new fans that the Christmas special is a perfect jumping-on point for Doctor Who, as it's a "completely freestanding" episode that newbies can "watch from scratch".
It was recently confirmed that former Big Brother presenter Davina McCall will be playing herself in 'The Church on Ruby Road'— marking her first appearance in the show since 2005's 'Bad Wolf'.
Davies has also announced that It's a Sin star Michelle Greenidge will play Ruby's mum Carla and EastEnders' Angela Wynter has been cast as her grandmother Cherry.
The episode will revolve around the newly regenerated Fifteenth Doctor and Ruby Sunday being pulled together by the sudden appearance of goblins in their lives.
Doctor Who's 'The Church on Ruby Road' will air on Christmas Day (December 25), but the next 60th anniversary special, 'Wild Blue Yonder', premieres first on December 2. The show airs on BBC One in the UK and Disney+ elsewhere.
