The White Lotus creator Mike White has provided an update on a third season, teasing that it will be "supersized".

The acclaimed anthology series follows the guests and employees at the titular resort chain, with the power dynamics shifting as the secrets of each character are revealed.

Following both the commercial and critical success of the first two seasons, HBO were quick to renew the show for another instalment, and White has now provided an exciting update on the next season.

"I'm finishing [the] scripts [and] still waiting to be able to cast," he told Entertainment Weekly. "If the SAG strike isn't resolved soon, then we'd have to push again because the show has a new cast every season – there's lots of parts to cast.

"I'm more than eager to get going. It's going to be supersized. It's going to be longer, bigger, crazier. I don't know what people will think, but I am super excited, so at least for my own barometer, that's a good thing – I'm super excited about the content of the season."

White, who starred in School of Rock, also spoke about the prospect of established characters returning, explaining that it was "fun" to play with the format of anthological storytelling.

"It would be easy to just be [a] full-on anthology, but I think it's more fun to have little threads through the show," he said. "If the show goes on for a couple of seasons, it would be fun to have an all-star season."

Rumours on the third season have been scarce so far, though several reports have mused that the action will be set in Thailand this time around. The previous two seasons, which collected several Primetime Emmy Awards, were set in Maui and Sicily respectively.

The White Lotus airs on HBO Max in the US, and on Sky Atlantic, Sky Go and NOW in the UK.
