The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon spoilers follow.
With all these spinoffs in the mix, it really does feel like The Walking Dead will never actually die. And that's great news for fans who have stuck with this long-running franchise since the very beginning.
The best of the bunch so far is Daryl Dixon, a French-based spinoff starring Norman Reedus as the fan-favourite biker who's fighting his way back home. Clearly, the network agrees, because it had already renewed the show for a second season several weeks before the first one premiered.
Now that the first season is over and done with, you must have questions, and so do we. So with that in mind, grab your crossbow and join us as we break down everything you need to know about The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon season two.
The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon season 2 potential release date: When does it come out?
We'd usually expect a wait between 12 and 18 months for a follow-up season like this, especially given the scale of the production involved, but the ongoing actors' strike could complicate this somewhat.
We do have good news though. On September 1, just over a week ahead of the show's first season premiere, Deadline reported that AMC Networks has reached a deal with SAG-AFTRA to clear the casts and crews of Daryl Dixon (and The Ones Who Live as well).
What to Read Next
That means production is back on track once again, so an Autumn 2024 release could still go ahead. If not, we'd expect to see new episodes by the start of 2025 at the very latest.
The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon season 2 cast: Who's in it?
You can't really have a Daryl Dixon show without Daryl Dixon himself, so Norman Reedus is all but guaranteed to return in season two. But who might be joining him?
Given the key role she played in season one, it seems likely that Clémence Poésy will reprise the role of Isabelle again, and given what happened at the end of the last episode, Louis Puech Scigliuzzi will almost certainly return as Laurent too.
Surprisingly enough, Drag Race France's season one winner, Paloma, has already confirmed to us exclusively that she will be back as well, despite her relatively small role in episode three: "I'm working on season two of Daryl Dixon," Paloma told us. "It's filming right now," (as of August 30, 2023).
Don't be surprised if some more familiar faces from the flagship Walking Dead show reappear here as well. At the very least, we can definitely expect to see Melissa McBride play a more active role in season two following Carol's surprise return at the end of the first season's final episode.
The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon season 2 plot: What will happen?
After Daryl said goodbye to Isabelle and paid respect to his grandfather's grave, things got more complicated for our shaggy-maned fave.
The boat that was supposed to take him home came close to the shore, but Laurent showed up surrounded by walkers, leaving Daryl with a painful choice to make. Will he stay behind and save the boy, or will he take this one chance to make it back home and reunite with everyone he left behind in America?
Knowing our Daryl, he'll give up on that dream and save Laurent, which means season two will continue to take place in France. We basically know that anyway because that's where the new episodes will be filmed, but more US-centric scenes will also feature heavily too thanks to Melissa McBride's surprise return as Carol.
At the very end of season one, we were extremely happy to see Daryl's bestie show up looking for him. She's still an ocean away, but Carol has a lead now that she's managed to retrieve Daryl's bike from that no-good stranger.
Whether she ends up in France next season remains to be seen, because in April 2022, McBride originally dropped out of a co-starring role on the show due to its being filmed in Europe.
An official statement from AMC noted that this had been "logistically untenable" for McBride. However, that was some time ago and things might have changed for her now though – if not, perhaps there's still a chance for at least one or two scenes filmed with her in France.
The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon season 2 trailer: When can I see it?
Season two is still in the production phase, so assuming there are no more hiccups in the schedule, we will hopefully see new footage around summer 2024 – perhaps at San Diego Comic-Con in July, although that's speculation on our part. So make sure you check back in here for the latest news and updates as we get them.
The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon aired on AMC in the US. A UK broadcaster has yet to be announced.
