The Righteous Gemstones has confirmed when season 3 will premiere, and has also released a teaser trailer.

The HBO series kicked off back in 2019, and follows the Gemstone family of televangelists in the US – namely Eli (John Goodman) and his children Jesse (Danny McBride), Judy (Edi Patterson) and Kelvin (Adam DeVine).

The new clip confirms that the next season will premiere on the network on June 18 with two episodes.

In the trailer, we see Jesse on top, following in the footsteps of "America's Jesus daddy" Eli – though he squabbles with his siblings, and comes into contact with a fanatic group who love their guns.

The Righteous Gemstones was created by McBride, and has received a warm reception critically since its debut in 2019. The second season debuted last year after nearly a three-year gap.

Back in 2020, McBride sat down with Digital Spy to speak about what sort of movie biopic would be made about his life, quipping that it would be titled "I Was Not Born With Enough Middle Fingers: The Danny McBride Story".

He also suggested it would have an "awards-fodder" Sense and Sensibility vibe and be directed by Ang Lee, with either The Rock, Seth Rogen or Michael Fassbender playing him.

Meanwhile, in other HBO news, it has been confirmed that Game of Thrones prequel series A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms: The Hedge Knight has paused production amid the writers' strike in the US. However, production on season 2 of House of the Dragon will continue.

The Righteous Gemstones returns on June 18 on HBO in the US. A UK release date is yet to be confirmed.
