Andor season 2 gets first look at returning characters with filming picture

Andor is a different kind of Star Wars show, less impressed with space battles and lighsabers and more interested in telling a more nuanced story about the systems of oppression and how difficult it is to fight back against them.

Season 2 is currently filming, and an image from the set shows us that Diego Luna's titular character and Stellan Skarsgård's Luthen Rael back together again, having met up briefly in season 1 before spending their time doing other things on other planets.

While we know Andor's eventual fate – he gets vaporised by the Death Star on Scarif shortly after helping beam its schematics to the Rebels – Rael is still surrounded in mystery.

Although he's a Rebel who hides in plain sight as a fancy Coruscant antiques dealer in a bad wig, a speech he made to an undercover officer and the fact that he so openly displays Jedi and Sith memorabilia in his shop has led to a theory that he actually is, or rather was, a Force user.

Although Andor has avoided the mystical side of Star Wars for the most part, it'll be interesting to see if the fans are on the money and if season 2 leans into that a bit more.

What we do know about the show's sophomore run is that it will be a while off, with Luna himself stating: “You're gonna have to wait a little bit [for season 2] because each season is like four movies. It takes time.

"The only thing I can promise is that we'll do it with the same respect, rigour, intensity, and energy. We're not going to rush it. I mean, that's the beauty of this show. It's just two seasons, and we can concentrate and try to deliver something as good or even better."
