Dear Edward star Connie Britton has unpacked the impact of the show's betrayal twist.
The Apple TV+ series, based on Ann Napolitano's novel of the same name, follows the life of a young boy named Edward (Colin O'Brien), who is the sole survivor of a plane crash.
Britton's character, Dee Dee, lost her husband in the crash, but as she tries to come to terms with his death, she begins to piece together his secret life in another city and discovers that he was in a relationship with another man, Evan (Christian Conn).

In an exclusive interview with Digital Spy, Britton discussed the impact this has on Dee Dee's life, as well as her memory of her husband and their relationship.

"Well, it’s interesting, because it’s such a betrayal, right? It literally shatters every— because she invested herself so much in her man, you know? That was how she was going to live her life. Her identity was through him," she said.
"And so as soon as she realises that her entire understanding of him was false, that then implies that her entire understanding of herself was false. That’s just a total shattering of identity."
The White Lotus star continued: "So it was really fun to play around with that, for her, because she’s living in such a façade when we first meet her. So then it’s about the courage and the bravery of seeing what her true identity is, and discovering what that is.
"So that – I really loved being able to make that pivot, and go on a journey with her, to have the courage to make that discovery."
Britton also shared what she believes to be one of the show's most impactful moments, referring to the scene in which Dee Dee is in the kitchen and "retraces how she and her husband met".

"She lets herself be really vulnerable there," Britton explained. "And she’s really trying to understand how she got there. Which, to me, felt like such a brave moment for her as a character, because it’s hard for her to look at that with a really naked eye.
"I loved that moment because I’ve certainly had moments in my life where I’ve had to do a real reckoning with myself about, like, 'What’s the truth in my life? Where did I come from? How did I get to this place?'
"I think that’s a very fundamental human experience. So I always think it’s really helpful to see a character doing that thing that’s so hard, and realise, 'Oh, OK. I could do that, too'."
