Mischa Barton has responded to her famous exit scenes from The OC, the most mid-Noughties of all the mid-Noughties teen dramas.

The actress, who played Marissa Cooper on the show until the season 3 finale, joined her co-stars Rachel Bilson and Melissa Clarke for their podcast series Welcome to The OC, Bitches to relive her character's final moments.

"I think I've probably only seen it once in my life," she admitted while the trio geared up to watch the clips in question. As the memories came flooding back, Barton shared a special request she made whilst filming her ending.

"I was like, 'More blood, more blood,'" she said. "It was going to border on being, like, a TV death and I really wanted it to be super dramatic and as realistic as you can get for The OC so that she went out with a bang... all the blood, it was like what really kills her, if you're gonna kill her it has be to like [shown on screen]."

She also joked that she didn't notice that the car was on fire, as she was really getting into playing dead.

As the scene goes on, she decided to stop watching as she was getting incredibly emotional at the "intense" scenes of Marissa and Ben McKenzie's Ryan saying their final goodbyes, especially when Imogen Heap's cover of 'Hallelujah' started playing.

"There were just these moments where he says 'I'm gonna get help,' but she says 'no', and he stays for her last breath," she continued. "That is so powerful... beautiful, tragic and peaceful at the same time."

The OC is available to stream in full in the UK via ITVX, while viewers in the US can stream it via Hulu or HBO Max.
