In the end, she meets her death sooner than she expected when she is murdered by Eile, played by Sophia Brown, who stabs her.
Merwyn's final act sees the character tearing the dagger out of herself as she dies on the throne she fought so hard for in front of the subjects that she doesn't realise despise her.
In an interview with Digital Spy, actress Mirren Mack revealed how she felt filming the gruesome scene in the prequel to the hit Netflix series.
"That moment was huge," she said. "There were a few different ways that I wondered how it would end, or how it would feel.
"I think Merwyn, forever, will think, 'I was trying to save you all. I was going to save this world. I was going to change it and make it better, and you just can’t see that. You didn’t understand that. No one understood me.'

"Merwyn was going to shape history and put a stamp on it, and everyone would remember. 'Everything I did, I did for you' is what she feels and says. 'And you’re the people who are coming to take that away.'
Mack went on to add: "There are so many different emotions at that moment. It was a big moment to film. I was sort of like, 'Whoa.' It felt huge."
The Witcher seasons 1-2 are now streaming on Netflix. Season 3 is in production, and spin-off The Witcher: Blood Origin is also on Netflix.
