The producer for Interview with the Vampire has given a disappointing update for season two.

The series, which is based on Anne Rice’s novel, was renewed for a second season before the first episodes premiered, but a producer for the AMC show has revealed that fans might have to wait a while to see what becomes of Louis (Jacob Anderson) and Lestat (Sam Reid).

Speaking to the Toronto Star, Adam O’Byrne disclosed that filming the follow-up would begin in April 2023, with shooting expected to run until August. This would make it unlikely that the show would return in its previous October slot, leading to a slight delay.

“My guess is we won’t make that window - that is an AMC call.” said O’Byrne, who hinted at a premiere date of either late 2023 or early 2024. He also revealed that most of the shoot would take place in Prague, which would serve as a stand-in for Paris, with “very limited” plans to film in the French capital and New Orleans, the main two settings of the series.

The first season covered the first half of Rice’s book, with the next eight episodes set to follow Louis and his daughter Claudia (Bailey Bass) across Europe as they seek information on their vampiric history.

O’Byrne also revealed that Armand (Assad Zaman), who appeared in the finale for season one, would play a larger role, as they seek to expand on how he became “the love of [Louis’] life”. Other characters such as “malefactor” Santiago and Madeleine will also be introduced.

Upon the announcement of the second season, which will comprise of eight episodes, AMC’s original programming chief Dan McDermott said: “The scope and breadth of this show, and what [showrunners] Mark Johnson and Rolin Jones have delivered, is just stupendous. They have rendered the rich and vibrant world of Anne Rice’s Interview in a wonderful way, and we’re incredibly proud.”

Interview with the Vampire airs on AMC in the US. In the UK there is currently no broadcaster or release date.
