The White Lotus stars Haley Lu Richardson and Adam DiMarco have broken down the shocking ending in the HBO series' fifth episode, which left viewers gobsmacked.
Episode five of the show saw Jennifer Coolidge's Tanya and Richardson's Portia spending time with Quentin (Tom Hollander) and his nephew Jack (Leo Woodall). Notably, Portia had just broken up with DiMarco's Albie in favour of her holiday fling with Jack.

But right at the end of the episode, Tanya hears noises in their villa and goes to check it out. She then sees Quentin and Jack having sex in one of the show's most out-there moments. The episode ends with Tanya's shocked reaction.

Fans have speculated whether Quentin and Jack have actually been lying about being uncle or nephew to keep their affair a secret, or if they are genuinely engaging in uncle-nephew incest.
In a new interview with EW, Richardson and DiMarco broke down that shock ending and debated what it means for the show.
"Oh boy, Portia. Sweet Portia. Poor Portia. Oh man, she was finally getting what she wanted, on paper, just to find out that he's f---ing his uncle. And it's not what it seems," Richardson said.

"You never want to find out that the guy you're dating and who has whisked you away is f---ing his uncle! You don't want to find that out."
She continued: "Portia's perspective, it's a very extreme example of how you can't really rely on this external excitement or male-centered validation. Because he's going to end up f---ing his uncle."
DiMarco added: "Yeah, you have to find true happiness and peace from within — because someone might be f---ing their uncle."

Richardson joked that the "moral" of The White Lotus season 2 is to "look inward" and develop yourself, otherwise "whoever you're f---ing is also going to be f---ing their uncle."
"I mean, people love Game of Thrones for this very reason," DiMarco joked, referencing the many incestual relationships in Game of Thrones. In House of the Dragon, Rhaenyra not only sleeps with her uncle Daemon but she marries him, too.
"Oh my god, HBO loves something about uncle-f---ing," Richardson said.
The White Lotus airs on HBO Max in the US, and on Sky Atlantic, Sky Go and NOW in the UK.
