A deleted scene from season 8 of The Flash could hold a big clue regarding the introduction of a major DC villain.
In the fourth episode of season 7, Abra Kadabra name-drops a villain named The Chronarch during an altercation with The Flash, saying "he would be doing him a favour by killing him right there rather than ever facing that foe".
Questioned by a reader whether the show would pick up on this plot point at a later date, TVLine revealed the villain was initially referenced again during the season 8 finale – but the scene got cut.
The publication added that it "soon will have an exclusive peek at that very curious, deleted scene…"

While there isn't official confirmation that The Chronarch will be appearing in the upcoming season, this certainly leaves open the possibility for the villain to be introduced.

However, if The Chronarch were to make an appearance, there is limited time left, with the series confirmed to end after the upcoming 13-episode-long season 9.
Showrunner Eric Wallace confirmed the news of the show's departure in a statement, saying: "Nine seasons! Nine years of saving Central City while taking audiences on an emotional journey full of heart, humour and spectacle.
"And now Barry Allen has reached the starting gate for his last race."

It seems the show is set to end on high note though with actor Candice Patton teasing that the final season will "fulfil" a legacy, suggesting fans will be pleased with how The Flash will wrap.
"I think it's going be very Barry and Iris-heavy, obviously, to send them off in a way that will please the fans," she told TVLine. "They have a legacy to fulfill, so hopefully we'll get to that. I'm eager to see [what happens], as well."
The Flash airs on The CW in the US. Sky Showcase and NOW air the show in the UK.
