Whoopi Goldberg is to appear on ABC's new series 666 Park Avenue.

The Sister Act star will play a character named Maris Elder on the horror drama's ninth episode, Entertainment Weekly reports.

Elder, a reclusive resident of The Drake, uses hypnosis to help Jane (Rachael Taylor) explore her supernatural connection to the haunted apartment building.

The 56-year-old actress is best known for appearing in such films as Ghost, Made in America, How Stella Got Her Groove Back and Girl, Interrupted.

She has co-hosted ABC's daytime talk show The View since 2007 and recently made an appearance on Glee.

666 Park Avenue debuted on ABC on September 30, attracting a modest 6.9 million viewers. The series will air on ITV2 in the UK.
