Just this month, executive producer/director JA Bayona spoke of the one main rule running through the creation of The Rings of Power.
"When you read [JRR] Tolkien's books, you can tell how much he appreciates beauty, so the show is full of beauty.
"Tolkien is inherently optimistic, warm and emotional," he continued. "This is a man who went through some of the darkest things in human history [the First World War] and he didn't come out of that and write a despairing, awful story.
"[Tolkien] wrote a story about hope, and a little guy succeeding. We always felt that it was rule number one that there needed to be true optimism and love, even in the darkest, scariest moments of the show."

When the first season does finally reach our screens, though, don't expect a simple rehash of Peter Jackson's classic movie trilogy.
Co-showrunner Patrick McKay explained earlier this summer: "Anyone approaching Lord of the Rings on screen would be wrong not to think about how wonderfully right [Jackson] got so much of it. But we're admirers from afar, that's it. The Rings of Power doesn't try to compete with him.
"You can psych yourself out in keeping up with the Joneses, but one of the mantras on this was 'go back to the source material'. What would Tolkien do?"
Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power will air on Amazon Prime Video from September 2.
