The long wait for Rick and Morty's sixth season is nearly over.

Adult Swim in the US will be launching new episodes of the animated sci-fi comedy series beginning on Sunday, September 4 (via TVLine) – nearly one year after the previous season wrapped up in autumn 2021. They should be arriving in the UK on E4 and All4 not too long after.

In the new season, things aren't looking good for Rick and Morty (both voiced by co-creator Justin Roiland) due to the temporal chaos caused by the Central Finite Curve.

A synopsis teases: "Will they manage to bounce back for more adventures? Or will they get swept up in an ocean of piss! Who knows?! Piss! Family! Intrigue! A bunch of dinosaurs! More piss! Another can't-miss season of your favorite show."

Sounds swell, though hopefully there won't be a swell in that particular ocean! Aside from that tongue-in-cheek teaser, Adult Swim's Michael Ouweleen has promised fans won't be disappointed by what's coming.

"It's hard to overstate the impact of Rick and Morty. More than a hit show, it is truly a global phenomenon," Ouweleen said. "As we prepare to launch this soon-to-be iconic season, we will be giving fans a unique way to be part of the fun – so keep your eyes peeled."

The franchise is expanding beyond the main series, as Ricky and Morty: The Anime was recently announced by Adult Swim, alongside spin-off series Vindicators 2.

At San Diego Comic-Con last week, showrunner Sarah Carbiener explained the biggest difference compared to the original show is that the spin-off's episodes are only between two and three minutes long.

"In those shorts that are two to three minutes, you just get to be f**king weird," she said. "We got the chance to play with the characters in a way you don't [in a longer episode]."

Rick and Morty airs on Adult Swim in the US, and on E4 and All 4 in the UK.
