Game of Thrones creator George RR Martin's mountainous workload could get in the way of a future House of the Dragon cameo.
HBO's Game of Thrones prequel series, adapted from the same author's book Fire & Blood, takes us 200 years into the past when the dragon-riding Targaryen dynasty first began to unravel.
Attending Comic-Con in San Diego, where Digital Spy was in attendance, Martin was asked about the chances of him popping up in a scene one day.

"I dunno, I mean, the last couple of years since Covid hit I've hardly left my house," he replied. "You also may not know, but there's this book that I'm writing... it's a little late."
Martin was of course alluding to The Winds of Winter, the delayed sixth entry in his A Song of Ice and Fire series, which he subsequently admitted takes precedence over everything else right now.
"And then if [House of the Dragon] is still going, who knows, maybe I'll show up. I did do a cameo in the original pilot of Game of Thrones but they reshot most of it, so I was left on the cutting room floor," he added.

Meanwhile, back in June, the writer teased how Paddy Considine's performance really elevates King Viserys Targaryen in House of the Dragon.
"I am vastly impressed by the show's version of King Viserys, played by Paddy Considine, who gives the character a tragic majesty that my book Viserys never quite achieved. Kudos to Paddy, Ryan [Condal] and his writers, and Miguel [Sapochnik] and the other directors," shared Martin.
Game of Thrones seasons 1-8 are available on DVD and Blu-ray. Spin-off House of the Dragon will premiere on Sunday, August 21 in the UK.
