The Terminal List season one spoilers follow.

The Terminal List season-one finale felt pretty final – but then again with a book series five instalments thick to tap into, there was surely always room for more.

Sure enough, there is still life in the series, and not just in the way we initially thought.

Instead, the series is being turned into something far bigger than we could have imagined – expanding into a franchise including a second season AND a prequel series.

So, is Chris Pratt's James Reece coming back? What else is exactly to come for The Terminal List?

Don't worry, we've got you – here's everything you need to know.

The Terminal List season 2 potential release date: When's it on?

The Terminal List's future was officially confirmed in February 2022 – including all its subsequent seasons and who they would focus on. (We'll get to that in a bit.)

Before the announcement, Pratt had shared a hopeful message with fans via writer Jack Carr's Danger Close podcast back in late 2022, teasing there was more to come.

"To the rabid fans of The Terminal List out there, you have nothing to worry about," he said. "We love you and appreciate your support. It's our life's mission to make sure you can come back to the well. We are working away."

Those promising words were followed by Carr, who added: "There may be some cool stuff on the horizon being discussed."

Details around season two and the prequel are a little thin on the ground at the moment though, beyond the fact they're coming back.

As of February 13, 2023, it's not believed the show has even gone back into production yet. So with that in mind – taking into account the filming and post-production time needed – it's unlikely we'll see anything before early 2024.

Depending on the show's success, it seems there's plans for things that could run for years. When talking about a follow-up series in an interview with Digital Spy, Pratt said: "Well, Jack Carr's written five extraordinary books.

"He's quite a prolific author, and they're all reaching the top of the New York Times' Best Seller list. I think it'd be fantastic to keep it going."

The Terminal List season 2 and prequel cast: Who will be coming back?

Chris Pratt will be back to resume the role of Ex-Navy SEAL James Reece for season two, but as for the rest, that's a slightly trickier topic... given that Reece straight-up murdered 95 per cent of the original cast.

It's not been confirmed who will and won't be involved, but Deadline reports a new character will be introduced in the shape of Raife Hastings – a former SEAL whose presence was already talked about during the season-one run.

As for the as-yet-unnamed prequel? One of the most shocking confirmations is the series will be focusing instead on Taylor Kitsch's character, Ben Edwards, rather than Reece.

Ben and Reece had a thick-as-thieves brotherhood bond in season one. But Ben's betrayal and involvement in a cover-up led to the many deaths that Reece sought revenge for.

At the end of season one, we are led to believe Reece shot and killed his dearest friend – however his death happened off screen.

This could be why the prequel will focus on him, with him not having a presence in season two. Casting for both season two and the prequel is still to be confirmed – but we have some ideas. Constance Wu was excellent as fearless journalist Katie Buranek, so hopefully she'll make a return.

FBI agent Tony Liddle, played by JD Pardo and his partner Mac Wilson (Christina Vidal) are more reasonable returns.

The Terminal List season 2 plot: What will happen?

Some explanation of how Reece managed to survive his fatal tumour could be key to the plot. Reece had come to accept his death, and so it's unlikely he would have sought a cure, especially given that he had lost the will to live following the death of his wife and daughter.

If the tumour was, in fact, not as fatal as they believed it to be, this could open up a whole new can of worms in terms of how he processes this reality and where he goes from here on out.

The FBI agent was struggling to reconcile with his decision to let Reece walk free. However, if he decided to track Reece down, it could spell trouble for them both (Reece already proved he would not be coming willingly).

Wu's character Katie also vowed to keep looking for Reece, despite his insistence that she shouldn't. How she folds into the story will be interesting to see.

Then there is the source material to contend with. There's no guarantee the show will follow the same trajectory as the books, but if it does, James will find himself embroiled in a new mission that starts with a mysterious plane crash. New friends and old are promised to board this new task that could turn out to be a deadly trap.

After all, DiGilio stated that True Believer would be a "great blueprint for season two", so it's starting to look pretty likely that this could be the case.

True Believer depicts a series of terrorist attacks on the Western world, being coordinated by a former Iraqi commando who had vanished into Europe's underground.

Now the most-wanted domestic terrorist alive, Reece goes into hiding in Mozambique after avenging the deaths of his family members during the events of The Terminal List.

However, it's not long before the CIA tracks him down and uses a presidential pardon to recruit him to travel the world and target terrorist leaders. Along the way, Reece unravels "a geopolitical conspiracy that exposes a traitorous CIA officer" and uncovers "a sinister assassination plot with global ramifications."

The Terminal List season 2 trailer: When can I watch it?

In the meantime... you can always start binging season one again, or start reading the books so you're fully in the know about what can happen.
