True Detective season 4 will feature boxing world champion Kali Reis in the co-lead role.
HBO's hit anthology last aired three years ago, with star names like Mahershala Ali, Matthew McConaughey, Rachel McAdams, Woody Harrelson and Colin Farrell appearing in previous seasons.
In the next iteration, subtitled Night Country, it's looking like Reis (who made her pro acting debut in Catch the Fair One) has won the part of Evangeline Navarro - partner to Jodie Foster's Detective Liz Danvers.

The Hollywood Reporter first reported her casting, which is certainly an eye-catching addition to the series, given she's a champion currently decorated with WBA, WBO and IBO belts.
Her most recent bout came in November 2021, when Reis defeated Jessica Camara by split decision in New Hampshire.

As for the storyline of Night Country, Danvers and Navarro are assigned the case of six missing men from the Tsalal Arctic Research Station.
"The pair will have to confront the darkness they carry in themselves and dig into the haunted truths that lie buried under the eternal ice," teased a synopsis.

Issa López (Tigers Are Not Afraid) replaces True Detective creator Nic Pizzolatto as the lead writer-producer here.
Executive vice-president of HBO programming Francesca Orsi shared in a statement: "We are tremendously excited to return to the True Detective franchise and to be working with the multi-talented Issa López, whose singular vision for her Night Country instalment will be beautifully realised with Jodie Foster and Kali Reis in the starring roles."
True Detective: Night Country will air on HBO in the US, and Sky Atlantic in the UK.
