Killing Eve spoilers follow.

The Good Place star Maya Rudolph has revealed that she almost starred in Killing Eve.

Rudolph, who has also starred in Saturday Night Live, shared that she was initially approached to star in the hit show as the titular character Eve Polastri but turned it down due to family commitments.

In the interview, the mother-of-four, who is married to director Paul Thomas Anderson, discussed the difficult decision to turn down the lead role in Killing Eve, saying that she couldn't leave her family for the months of filming abroad that the series called for.

"There was no way I was about to move to Europe for months," Rudolph told The Hollywood Reporter. "Like, how?"

The choice was made all the more difficult for Rudolph as she was a huge fan of Killing Eve showrunner and season 1 writer Phoebe Waller-Bridge, after bingeing her creation Fleabag.

The Good Place star did, however, manage to meet with Waller-Bridge during a later visit to London and said of the Fleabag star: "Phoebe's the fucking best."

Of course, the role of Eve Polastri later went to Sandra Oh, who went on to receive a Golden Globe win and several Emmy nominations for her portrayal of the character.

Killing Eve aired its fourth and final season earlier this year, and fans were left frustrated as the thriller series came to a brutal end.

In the finale, Villanelle (Jodie Comer) was tragically shot dead by a sniper, just when it seemed as though she and Eve would finally be getting their happy ending.

Sandra Oh recently shared that the last episode of the series nearly had an alternate ending in which Eve died and Villanelle lived.

"Eve is the way into this world, she's our everywoman, so it's kind of really super depressing if she dies," Sandra reflected. "So we switched it around and Jodie was very much on board with that."

Meanwhile, Maya Rudolph is set to star in new workplace comedy Loot which debuts on Apple TV+ on Friday (June 24).

Killing Eve aired on BBC One and BBC America. The full series is now available to stream on BBC iPlayer.
