Obi-Wan Kenobi writer teases season 2 potential

Obi-Wan Kenobi is reaching its conclusion with its upcoming sixth episode, and Star Wars fans have already been wondering whether the limited series could expand into a longer arc and return for a second season.

According to Kenobi writer and executive producer Joby Harold, however, there are no real plans to return for a second season – at least at present.

As Harold recently explained, the Disney+ series starring Ewan McGregor in the titular role was originally conceived as a limited series, meaning it is unlikely its plot will bleed over into a second instalment.

"I'm being asked about it constantly," Harold said on the Deadline Podcast. "I've just been thinking about this for so long as a close-ended story that my mind is so focused on this as a sort of limited [series], that I haven't thought beyond it.

"But he's a great character. They're all amazing characters," he added.

While it seems that a second season focused on the Jedi master may not be happening, there is a chance Harold might be involved in another Star Wars series – even if he wasn't quite admitting anything just yet.

"I can't speak to any of these questions," he said with a laugh when asked about working on a series outside Obi-Wan Kenobi.

"But I love Star Wars, and the experience of working on Star Wars hasn't changed that in any way. It's only made it a bigger part of my life, and I feel lucky to be a part of it."

Alongside McGregor, the series also stars Game of Thrones' Indira Varma in the role of Tala Durith, Vivien Lyra Blair as Princess Leia Organa and The Queen's Gambit star Moses Ingram as Reva Sevander aka Third Sister.

The series has also seen the hotly anticipated return of Hayden Christensen as Anakin Skywalker/Darth Vader, reprising the role he originally played opposite McGregor in the Star Wars prequel trilogy, with James Earl Jones returning to voice Vader.

Obi-Wan Kenobi is now streaming new episodes weekly on Disney+, airing on Wednesdays. Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker and the entire Skywalker Saga are available on DVD, Blu-ray and 4K now, as well as on Disney+.
