Mayans MC spoilers follow.
Are you ready for one last ride with Mayans MC?
The Sons Of Anarchy spin-off is about to go off-road with one last (and no doubt deadly) season. And with EZ now in power, all bets are off as to what's going to happen.
So, what's to come of the Reyes brothers and the motorcycle gang? Here's everything you need to know.
Mayans MC season 5 potential release date: Will there be a fifth season?
In January 2023, it was confirmed that Mayans MC season five will be the show's last. FX boss John Landgraf made the announcement during the Television Critics Association's winter press tour.
At this point, season five had already begun filming, with the show's Twitter account confirming to a fan on December 6 that Mayans MC was back in production.
What to Read Next
A release date hadn't yet been confirmed, but we expected it to arrive during the autumn schedule at the end of this year. It actually dropped on May 24, and will end in July.
Vanessa Giselle, who plays Hope on the show, also added further excitement to the Twitterverse when she dropped a post about their progress – all while sporting some Mayans merch.
"May have been filming a little something last week," Giselle said, adding: "Also, check out this @MayansFX hoodie."
Mayans MC season five cast: Who's in it?
Mayans MC just wouldn't be the same without the leading brothers whose story sets the backdrop of everything we see. So, JD Pardo (who plays EZ Reyes) and Clayton Cardena (Angel) will definitely be back for more.
Other stars we're expecting to see more of include:
• Sarah Bolger (who plays Emily Thomas Galindo)
• Carla Baratta (Luisa, aka Adelita)
• Emilio Rivera (Marcus)
In season four, Kim Coates returned to play his Sons of Anarchy role, Tig. Could he return during season five?
One person who didn't make it out of season four alive is Richard Cabral's Johnny 'El Coco' Cruz, who was gunned down by the Sons of Anarchy when he was on a mission to rebuild relationships between the factions of Mayans.
Just when it seemed like he'd done his job – boom! He was taken out. So, unless he appears in flashbacks, our goodbye to El Coco will have to be a permanent one.
Mayans MC season 5 plot: What will happen?
It's all about change in Mayans MC, with EZ embracing his position as a leader of the Santo Padre chapters of the biker gang. Not that he's going to be a particularly fair or good one, though.
Over the course of season four, EZ became more cutthroat and violent, killing several people as his humanity slipped further from his grasp. Even his loved ones were mown down in his path to the top.
Speaking to GameSpot, showrunner Elgin James said: "We haven't really seen a benevolent leader before.
"We haven't seen someone that operates on love for his brothers. Marcus operated this machine, but then look at how people would just drop like flies. And [on] Sons of Anarchy, you know, people would just drop."
This is probably the last thing they need considering there's a growing war between the Mayans and the Sons of Anarchy.
"The biggest enemy [in season five] is that we’re at war with Sons of Anarchy," Clayton Cardenas told Collider. "As menacing as that may sound and what you would expect, sometimes through war, you gain some allyship. It’s a battle the full season."
"We’re warring from episode one. So, as we start to lose brothers on both sides, the leadership from both parties reevaluates the situation to see if it’s necessary to get what we both want, or maybe team up to go against these other people. There’s this constant change of who your allies are."
"That’s been a cool thing. I wasn’t expecting that. That didn’t feel normal to me. Seeing the Grim Bastards, from Sons of Anarchy, come back into play was a cool twist and turn that people weren’t expecting. One of our new leads this year is JR Bourne, who plays Isaac of Sons of Anarchy, has been a phenomenal addition to the cast."
"What he’s bringing to his character this season is so cool. He’s got a major role in the storyline with the Mayans, especially with EZ, that’s really cool to watch. He’s a phenomenal artist, but he’s a phenomenal person, off-screen, as well."
Angel had reached his limit with his brother, going head-to-head in a tense confrontation. But while this was happening, a hooded figure went to the warehouse where all the Mayans' cocaine was stashed and set it alight.
So, they have some enemies that are going to cause problems, too.
"What's happening is, the show will never, ever be the same," James added to Entertainment Weekly. "The brothers will never be the same.
"I don't know if that's Angel [setting the fire], I don't know if that's Isaac, I don't know who that is — but there's someone who's burning all that down, and nothing on our show will ever be the same.
"Kurt [Sutter, co-executive producer] and I did start to lay this stuff in from the beginning. Like: 'Oh, this is the way [EZ] was always going to end. This was his fate from the start.'"
