On the back of a very dramatic season one finale and a promise of a second season, Severance is one of Apple TV+'s biggest successes.

In a chat with Variety, the cast and crew of the show have spilt some behind-the-scenes secrets and unpicked some of the events of the season.

Director and executive producer, Ben Stiller, talked about the final episode and how they didn't shoot it as a stand-alone but across nine months and how it was filmed differently from the rest of the series.

"The idea was to try to immerse the viewer in the point of view of the Innies. We wanted the last episode to be totally representative of their experience being in a different world than their own, so it was all shot by Steadicam," Stiller explained. "The hope was that it would feel as different for the audience as it did for the characters."

Actor Zach Cherry explained that the set and production design really helped him to craft his character as it was so detailed.

He said: "One thing that made the process of shooting that scene easier was the amazing set and production design. All the sets and locations we shot on were so fleshed out and detailed, that it really felt like I was locked into this weird little claustrophobic control room."

Britt Lower, who plays Helly in the show, explains shooting her scene was "a real tightrope walk" as her character is going through a lot.

"Filming this scene with Michael Siberry was a real tightrope walk; trying to balance how well Helly R is covering her rage in front of him, careful not to misstep, while also doing reconnaissance and plotting her next move. For me, reciting the compunction statement became a prayerful reckoning with herself."

She continued: "It's Helly R being laid bare, holding her Outie self [Helena] account- able for her and their family's actions. 'Forgive me for the harm I have caused this world' took on a really different meaning in this context."

Tramell Tillman, who plays Milchick, one of the best parts of playing the character was seeing him "slowly unravel throughout the season".

"Milchick is a man who is wicked smart, agile, an observer," Tillman explained. "He knows the strengths and weaknesses of those he surveys. His superpower lies in knowing how to utilize his knowledge for gain."

He also explained that he believed his character would stop at nothing to do what is best for the company too.

"Not only was it a pure delight in making the scene, but what we witness occur within Milchick is quite extraordinary."
