The Flight Attendant season 2 spoilers follow.

Now that the season two finale of The Flight Attendant has aired, showrunners Steve Yockey and Natalie Chaidez have broken down the finale, Cassie's ending, and what might come next if the show is renewed.

The first seven episodes of the comedy thriller's second season were certainly panic-fuelled, what with someone pretending to be Cassie (Kaley Cuoco) and going on a murder spree in LA and all.

So, of course, it was a nice surprise for viewers when Cassie actually got a happy ending by the end of the season.

While speaking with Entertainment Weekly, Yockey explains why season two was set out this way.

He said: "I think in season 1, the goal of the finale was to make it feel satisfying. In the second season, we've given you a 7-episode panic attack, so episode 8, we get to give you some happy stuff and then go away.

"And so we figured we would do that again with season 2 on a larger scale. And I feel like it's good that you feel that way. That was the goal."

He explained that while season one was all about honesty, season two was all about self-acceptance for Cassie.

"Natalie came up with this double idea that was built around: Once you know you have that darker part of yourself, how do you interact with it? And then that double theme ended up taking over the entire season, literally," he continued.

"So, for us, I think it's just that the journey of sobriety and the journey to self acceptance can be a really f--king rocky road, but you can get there."

Now that season two has come and gone; fans are already anticipating another to find out what happens next. But are there any plans for more?

Yockey said that each season should feel like a stand-alone adventure for Cassie, meaning that both the season one and two finales could serve as a series finale. But they're not ruling anything out for another.

He revealed: "We feel like Cassie's in a good place. Things are moving forward. She's taking better care of herself. Annie (Zosia Mamet) and Max (Deniz Akdeniz) are okay. Megan's (Rosie Perez) finally maybe got her feet back on the ground. But also, we left enough threads that we can launch a season 3 if we need to, and Natalie's got big ideas."

"Big ideas," echoed Chaidez.

The Flight Attendant, season 2 airs on HBO Max in the US. It will premiere on Sky Max and NOW in the UK on May 26. The series is based on the book of the same name by Chris Bohjalian.
