A new drama about the music industry from Euphoria creator Sam Levinson is being overhauled with a new creative vision.

The planned HBO series, which is called The Idol, is set to follow a self-help guru and leader of a modern-day cult as they fall into a relationship with a rising new pop singer.

HBO has now confirmed that the series is going to "adjust" its cast and crew to take a new "creative direction" with the show.

"The production will be adjusting its cast and crew accordingly to best serve this new approach to the series. We look forward to sharing more information soon."

It has not been confirmed which members of the production team will be replaced or which roles will be recast and who will play them instead.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, The Idol will have to do some reshoots to accommodate the new cast and crew as production had already begun on the HBO series.

The original main cast included Suzanna Son, Troye Sivan, Lily-Rose Depp and Steve Zissis alongside Melanie Liburd, Tunde Adebimpe, Elizabeth Berkley Lauren, Nico Hiraga and Anne Heche in the supporting cast.

Levinson has co-created and co-written the six-part series with Grammy Award-winning singer The Weeknd (Abel Makkonen Tesfaye) and The Weeknd's long-time collaborator, producer Reza Fahim. Amy Seimetz was on board to direct the series.

Euphoria seasons one and two are now available to watch on HBO Max in the US and NOW in the UK.
