The Sex Lives of College Girls was renewed for a second season before the first run of episodes even finished, but one important cast member won't be returning.

Gavin Leatherwood plays Nico, the love interest of main character Kimberly and the older brother of Leighton, another central character. Or rather, we should say he played Nico, as he's announced that he's done with the show.

"There is a season 2, but I'm not going to go back," he told Us Weekly.

Leatherwood said that he was "happy to do the first season" but is now "branching off and going in a different direction" in his career.

He continued: "It was such an incredible experience. I think Mindy [Kaling, creator] is brilliant and the cast, everyone's lovely. But with so many amazing opportunities out there, we want to keep spreading our wings and leading ourselves to other projects so that’s the move."

What to Read Next

As well as being an actor (he also played Nick in Chilling Adventures of Sabrina), Leatherwood also does music, and has been teasing the release of a new song in early April on his Instagram.

It's not been announced how Leatherwood's departure will affect the second season. The first season ended with the reveal of Nico's relationship with Kimberly, and the revelation that he actually had a serious girlfriend and Kimberly was his bit on the side.

It's not the only Mindy Kaling-created project to be renewed for a further season, as Never Have I Ever has been given a fourth and final run on Netflix, following the third season which is due to land in the summer.

The Sex Lives of College Girls airs on HBO Max in the US, and will premiere on ITV2 and ITV Hub in the UK later this year.
