Star Wars star says her character is "more street smart" than Boba Fett

Star Wars bounty hunter Boba Fett may be a franchise icon and a highly skilled fighter, but that doesn't mean that he's got the better of every other character when it comes to survival traits.

Disney+ series The Book of Boba Fett sees Boba (Temuera Morrison) ruling over the streets of Tatooine's Mos Espa alongside his partner in crime, Fennec Shand, who he originally teamed up with in The Mandalorian.

Fennec has already proven herself to be a powerful ally to the former bounty hunter and star Ming-Na Wen, who plays the assassin, has revealed to RadioTimes.com that she thinks her character has better street smarts than Boba, despite his fearsome reputation.

When asked whether she thinks Fennec takes Tatooine less seriously than Boba does, she said: "Yes. Well, I mean, I think Fennec is very familiar with Tatooine and, you know, the crime syndicate, because she's been a bounty hunter for a while now.

"And Dave [Filoni] made me aware of that, because he asked me to play Fennec in [Disney+ animated Star Wars series] The Bad Batch. And so there's a long history. And if anything, she's probably a bit more street smart than Boba Fett.

"Because he worked more with the Empire. You know, he was brought up in that whole world. So I think that's the good yin and yang between us. And she doesn't take it as seriously, for sure, which is kind of like Tem and I on set, a little."

The actress, who has also starred in Marvel's Agents of SHIELD and Disney's live-action adaptation of Mulan, also dropped some hints about what fans can expect from the second half of The Book of Boba Fett's debut season, teasing that it will have viewers planning a rewatch.

"I really hope that they want to go back and see the whole thing over again in a different light," she said. "After, you know, knowing how things have... I'm so careful with my words here... how things have evolved, and all these other elements that have come into play.

"You know, that's what's so great with Jon [Favreau] and Dave, they are so knowledgeable about this world, about Star Wars, and they're such huge fans that they know how to set up the pieces and make moves that you don't even know are coming. And then suddenly it's like, ooh, checkmate.

"So yeah, we're waiting. We're waiting for that win. We're waiting for that hit. And not just 'til the very last episode – like each and every episode, there's new moves and new elements that come into play that hopefully will surprise the fans. I know it surprised me."

As for what might be next for Fennec, Wen wasn't giving away any details on whether we might see her back for more Book of Boba Fett or if she might make an appearance in another Star Wars property, joking that she is "always the last to know" – but she's certainly up for more Fennec.

"You're asking the wrong person about what the next project will be," she said. "But trust me, I'll be there for it, if they want to invite me to any other projects."
