Keanu Reeves lines up next major role in Leonardo DiCaprio's show

Keanu Reeves is to front Leonardo DiCaprio's upcoming television drama The Devil in the White City.

The Wrap has confirmed that the actor, who was last seen on screen reprising his iconic role as Neo in The Matrix Resurrections, is to star in the limited Hulu series, which is already being described as a big-budget adaptation of Erik Larson's book of the same name.

Published in 2003, it tells the true story of renowned architect Daniel H Burnham, whose fate collided with that of serial killer Henry H Holmes, a cunning doctor who lured ill-fated young women to his elaborate, Chicago-based 'Murder Castle' between 1891 and 1894, and killed them.

"The story takes the viewer on a tour of murder, romance and mystery in the gilded age," the publication notes.

This marks Reeves' first major foray into the world of US TV. His most notable film works, of course, include John Wick and its sequels, Dracula, My Own Private Idaho, Constantine and the Bill & Ted movies.

The Devil in the White City was touted by DiCaprio way back in 2010, and was initially going to be a big-screen title at Paramount, with Martin Scorsese on board to direct.

Now, though, the Hollywood director is adopting a producer role alongside DiCaprio, Rick Yorn, Sam Shaw, Jennifer Davisson and Stacey Sher, while Oscar-nominated filmmaker Todd Field (Little Children) is gearing up to direct the first two episodes.

Castle Rock and Manhattan creator Sam Shaw is also thought to be involved. As it stands, it remains uncertain whether DiCaprio will remain strictly behind the camera.

The Matrix Resurrections is out now in cinemas, and on HBO Max in the US.
