Hawkeye episode 4 spoilers follow.

Hawkeye's fourth episode dives even deeper into Black Widow's legacy, exploring how the guilt and loss surrounding her death still impacts Clint to this very day. But the show isn't just concerned with Avengers of old. Thanks to Kate Bishop's arrival, Hawkeye firmly has its eye set on the future, and Hailee Steinfeld's character isn't the only new Avenger this show introduces either.

This might not exactly be an Avenger you're familiar with though, and no we're not talking about Echo, the anti-hero who's set to soon star in her own Disney+ show. We're actually referring to someone far more obscure, someone that only fans of Hawkeye's West Coast Avengers comic book run might recall...

In Hawkeye episode two, our heroes withdraw to an apartment owned by Kate's aunt, Moira Brandon. Her name is visible on the buzzer outside, and once we move inside the flat, Moira also appears on a number of film posters for old Hollywood features such as Creature of the Dark Galaxy.

Episode four takes us back to this hideout again when Clint uses pina colada's to soothe his tired, achy muscles. This time around, Kate tries to come up with a new game plan and in doing so, she uses permanent markers on an old poster for A Chance of Love, yet another film that once starred Moira Brandon.

So who is this Moira? Is she an old superhero who fought in secret, just like Isaiah Bradley? Or is she an up and coming Young Avenger who's set to forge a new path with Kate? Well, the answer is neither, at least not given what we know of her from the comics.

What to Read Next

In West Coast Avengers #100, Hawkeye's wife, (see Agents of SHIELD), was killed by Mephisto — a demon who Marvel fans thought was the real villain behind WandaVision. During a backup story in that same issue, Clint looks back on the time he visited LA in search of a new West Coast Avengers compound.

While on this trip, Hawkeye and Mockingbird met Moira Brandon, an old woman who was once famous for starring in silent movies. Moira took our heroes to her home where Crossfire, a Z-list villain was lying in wait. Clint and Bobbi held their own until Crossfire pulled out a backup gun, which could have killed them both if Moira hadn't stepped in with a crossbow and saved the day.

However, the celebrations were cut short when Moira's heart gave out from all the excitement. But before she went, Hawkeye decided to make Moira an honorary Avenger to commemorate the old star's bravery. Technically, this actually made her the first 'hero' to join the West Coast Avengers following Clint and Bobbi.

So far, the MCU has shied away from this storyline, but we wouldn't be surprised to see Moira show up at some point to reclaim her apartment. If so, will she also meet a heroic end to her life? If anything, references to Moira will probably just remain that, cute little Easter eggs that appeal to longtime fans of Hawkeye's journey in the comics.

But then again, Falcon's US Agent, the upcoming Moon Knight show, and WandaVision's version of White Vision all suggest that the West Coast Avengers run could become more important to the MCU's future than any of us once realised...

Hawkeye airs new episodes every Wednesday morning on Disney+.
