Colin Farrell is set to reprise the role of The Penguin in an upcoming Batman spin-off series.
Variety reports that the Irish actor has officially signed on to star in and executive produce a series spin-off of The Batman, in which he would star again as the supervillain also known as Oswald 'Oz' Cobblepot.
Farrell will first appear as the character – previously played by Danny DeVito in Tim Burton's Batman Returns and by Robin Lord Taylor in series Gotham – in The Batman alongside English actor Robert Pattinson in the titular role.

Lauren LeFranc, known for Impulse and Agents of SHIELD, is attached to write the script for the series, set to delve into The Penguin's rise to power in the Gotham criminal underworld.
The Batman director Matt Reeves and the film's producer Dylan Clark would executive produce the spin-off, produced by Warner Bros and streaming on HBO Max.

Should the Penguin series move forward, it would be the second show spawned from The Batman. HBO Max has already greenlit a drama set within the Gotham Police Department, with Giri/Haji creator Joe Barton attached as the showrunner.
The series are part of WarnerMedia's attempt to launch a new interconnected Batman universe across all of its platforms.

The Penguin won't be the only villainous character Pattinson's Batman will have to face in the new DC adventure.
Reeves' movie also features Paul Dano as Edward Nashton/The Riddler, a baddie previously portrayed by Jim Carrey in Joel Schumacher's Batman Forever.
Zoë Kravitz also stars as Selina Kyle aka Catwoman, a nightclub worker and burglar who meets Pattinson's Caped Crusader.
The Batman has a release date of March 4, 2022.
