The Witcher star Henry Cavill has explained that he fought for his character Geralt of Rivia to change significantly for season 2 of the Netflix show.

The second outing of the extremely popular fantasy show wrapped filming a few months ago and will land on the streamer next month as fans have been waiting almost two years to reunite with Geralt, Yennefer (played by Anya Chalotra), Ciri (Freya Allan) and Jaskier (Joey Batey).

But the Geralt we will be seeing in season 2 will apparently be a bit different than the "grumpy snowman" we left at the end of the first season. According to Cavill, he will be ever so slightly more talkative this time around.

"This season, I really wanted to make sure that we represented the book's Geralt more accurately, and that we saw him speak more," the actor told Total Film. "I pushed really, really hard for that."

However, despite letting us hear his voice more, Geralt is still the same underneath and definitely not "cheery" in this new version, according to Cavill.

"He's still Geralt of Rivia, but he's definitely coming across as more of an intellectual," he continued. "It's a hard life, monster hunting... I wouldn't recommend it."

The actor also previously teased another big chance coming this season, this time to do with the narrative style of the story, which will not feature the varying timelines which characterised season 1.

Instead, we can expect "multiple cliffhangers throughout a [single] episode", which is bound to keep fans on the edge of their seats.

From the season 2 trailers and clips already released, we know that Geralt is set to bring Princess Cirilla to his childhood home of Kaer Morhen after believing that Yennefer has lost her life at the Battle of Sodden.

"While the Continent's kings, elves, humans and demons strive for supremacy outside its walls, he must protect the girl from something far more dangerous: the mysterious power she possesses inside," the official synopsis reads.

The Witcher season 1 is now streaming worldwide on Netflix. Season 2 will premiere on December 17, 2021.
