The Good Doctor will be saying goodbye to one of its newest cast members as Osvaldo Benavides is exiting the ABC show.
The Mexican actor plays Dr Mateo Rendón Osma on the series led by Freddie Highmore as Dr Shaun Murphy. Benavides first appeared in a guest star role in the two-part season four finale and was elevated to series regular status at the beginning of season five.
In his initial arc, Mateo met the San Jose St. Bonaventure team and was assisting them with the surgical mission in Guatemala. He later became involved in a romantic relationship with St. Bonaventure's chief of surgery, Dr Audrey Lim (Christina Chang).

Willing to continue his romance with Audrey, Mateo was then hired as a new surgeon at St. Bonaventure at the beginning of this season.

Due to ongoing legal issues, he was under the supervision of Dr Marcus Andrews (Hill Harper). His character description revealed that "some rash actions during his residency will be back to haunt him and could complicate things".
According to TVLine, details surrounding Mateo's storyline are being kept under wraps.

Prior to season five, which premiered in September this year, executive producer David Shore said that Mateo's legal drama would "cast a shadow" over his employment.
"In terms of his training, he is a fairly senior doctor," Shore explained.
"But because of his past, because of his history, he is going to have to learn to swallow his pride a little bit."
The Good Doctor season 5 airs on ABC in the US. The show airs on Sky Witness and NOW in the UK.
