Locke & Key will finally be back on our screens on August 10 for season three.

However, this will also be the final season of the show, with the fantasy tale wrapping up after these episodes. So make the most of these episodes while you can, folks!

What to Read Next

Unfortunately, the cancellation was something fans were already aware of. The co-showrunners and executive producers Carlton Cuse and Meredith Averill had previously made a statement on Instagram, explaining why it was time to duck out.

"Once we began working on the series, we felt three seasons was the ideal length to bring the story of the Locke family and their Keyhouse adventures to a satisfying conclusion," they wrote.

"As storytellers, we are grateful that we had the opportunity to tell our version of Joe Hill and Gabriel Rodriguez's incredible story exactly the way we wanted. We're keeping the magical keys, though, for our own personal use."

First-look photos have teased plenty of trouble ahead, with one pic of the Locke family in protective stance, seemingly readying themselves for a fight. Axes and mallets (shown in the following picture) also can't be a sign of peace, not war.

However, alongside the brewing danger, there's possibly some romance in the air – as one picture suspiciously looks like the set-up for a wedding. Merriment is also not far away despite the perilous events on the horizon, which can be seen through an endearing sparkler scene.

Filming for the series wrapped all the way back in September 2021. This was later confirmed by writer Joe Hill on Twitter.

It's the final showdown, so naturally the Locke family will return. After all, the clue is in the name, right?

That means we're due to see Connor Jessup (who plays Tyler), Emilia Jones (Kinsey), Jackson Robert Scott (Bode), Darby Stanchfield (Nina) and Aaron Ashmore (Duncan).

Following the end of filming, Connor posted an emotional goodbye to the series as he closed the door on this stage of his career.

He wrote: "That's a wrap on season three of Locke & Key. After a year of shooting, we're done. I'm a tangled mess. My thumbs are hovering and not finding good words. I'm sleepy and happy and sad. But mostly, Im grateful. It's been a weird, shitty year and this show has been a refuge. These people have been a refuge.

"I wish I could tell you about all of them. The hundreds of people who make this show. How brilliant and decent they are. How much care and pride they take in what they do. How unusually full of love this set has been, every day."

...And now we're crying. Thanks, Connor!

Then we have Petrice Jones (who plays Scot), Brendan Hines (Josh) and, naturally, the return of Kevin Durand as Frederick Gideon.

There's also a chance we'll see Hallea Jones' Eden again, despite what happened in the season two finale.

"We have some incredible adventures in store for the Locke family in season three, and could not be more excited to continue telling our story with our great partners at Netflix," said Cuse.

Dodge was finally defeated in season two, but Frederick Gideon is only just getting started. Eden summoned him and for a hot second, it looked like she was going to rule the roost. But the Captain hurled her into the depths of the well from which he came, before exiting through the portal to raise hell #prayforthelockes.

Cuse and Averill explained that season three will focus "much more heavily on the family" and that they'll "face the greatest threat they've had to face yet", too.

"That really bonds them in a way that we've never seen before. I can't say more than that," Averill explained to Collider.

"Part of our challenge, that we happily take on, is that every season, we need to outdo the season before it. It's a challenge, but it's a fun one and I think we've been able to do that."

However, one thing that won't be happening anytime soon is the rumoured Sandman crossover. Joe Hill revealed that while The Sandman is heading to Netflix, there won't be a Locke and Key crossover.

"I've seen a few articles now teasing the possibility of a Locke & Key/Sandman crossover on Netflix & thought I'd jump in for a clickbait check," he wrote on Twitter in October 2021.

"Nope. Like most Sandman hardcores I'm looking forward to a big, sweeping, faithful adaptation of Neil [Gaiman]'s stories. Can't wait."

"I just think it's so cool that @neilhimself let @GR_comics & I play in the Sandman universe for the Hell & Gone comic," he added. "It was amazing to have spent some time adventuring in his world. That's a thing I'm always going to treasure."

Locke and Key season 3 trailer: When can I watch it?

Yes! While we have yet to get a full` trailer, fans were treated to a little teaser to confirm the release date.

As part of Netflix's Geeked Week in June 2022, we were given our first look back into the universe as the show built up for a dramatic conclusion.

The teaser promises something epic, by the look of this one-minute long snippet alone... hang on to your hats. But obviously it's left some fans a little sad, as it truly is the beginning of the end for these characters.

On YouTube, one wrote: "This show is so damn underrated. Honestly 3 seasons really isn't enough, we need more of L&K", while another praised the show for not needing to rely on shock tactics and swearing to create a gripping tale. We're inclined to agree.

Locke & Key seasons 1 and 2 are available on Netflix now.
