Jack Ryan is set to bring back a familiar face in the show's fourth season.

Despite appearing in the Amazon show's first season, Abbie Cornish's Cathy Mueller was nowhere to be seen in the show's second run.

However, Deadline is reporting that the actress will return to the fold in the show's fourth season, with her return potentially being set up in the forthcoming third outing.

Mueller's disappearance from the show has been a mystery for fans, especially given that she was never formally written out.

There was no mention of her in season two, despite being Ryan's (John Krasinski) love interest in the first season. The only hint was the fact that the titular character was seen sleeping with someone else, and he later revealed that he was single.

The next batch of episodes will see Ryan on the run after being wrongly implicated in a big conspiracy, with both the CIA and an international rogue faction on his back.

He is forced underground as he criss-crosses Europe and tries to stay alive, all while trying to prevent a huge global conflict.

Meanwhile, last year Krasinski revealed that he had to sell his online show Some Good News due to his busy schedule, which includes Jack Ryan.

"I was only planning on doing eight of them during quarantine, because I have these other things that I'm going to be having to do very soon, like Jack Ryan and all this other stuff," he explained.

"More than that... writing, directing, and producing – all those things – with a couple of my friends was so much."

He added: "I knew it wouldn't be sustainable with my prior commitments. I would love to keep doing the show from my office forever. It just wasn't sustainable."

Jack Ryan seasons 1-2 are streaming now on Amazon Prime Video.
