Clickbait spoilers follow.

When Clickbait dropped on Netflix back in August 2021, viewers were immediately hooked with its Black Mirror-esque tale of the internet going too far.

After a regular Joe called Nick Brewer disappears from the face of the earth, before popping up on the internet with a sign that reads: "I ABUSE WOMEN", the police and his family scramble to unearth the truth. Cue multiple twists and turns, including kidnap, murder and much more.

But are there plans to revisit the story? Here's everything you need to know about Clickbait season two.

Clickbait season 2 release date: When will it air?

Unfortunately, it seems unlikely that the series will come back for a season two.

Clickbait was always listed as a limited series, which typically means 'one and done'. By February 2022, there were still no announcements regarding a switch in this plan.

What to Read Next

That doesn't mean it won't happen though, as some 'limited' shows have been given comeback status due to their phenomenal success. Big Little Lies and The Flight Attendant are both good examples of this.

Clickbait has a bit of an advantage over shows like this too, as it's not based on anything, and therefore can somewhat live by their own rules.

However, Netflix normally stands its ground with this, with shows like Behind Her Eyes and The Queen's Gambit doing phenomenally, but not getting any more despite their success. So your guess is as good as ours. We'd hold out hope, but not too much.

Clickbait season 2 cast: Who's in it?

Dawn Gleed, played by Becca Lish, would be the most obvious focus for a second season if the show was to return, and Betty Gabriel (Sophie Brewer) believes the show's current characters could still have a part to play.

"I personally feel like you could spend an entire season exploring each character," she told Metro. "I think what's really great about the show is that this perspective does bounce around, you do get to really zoom into this character's experience in relation to this event."

But the ending of Clickbait's first outing also felt conclusive, which opens up the possibility of an anthology series, à la American Horror Story, with an entirely fresh narrative led by the stars of season one as new characters: Zoe Kazan (Pia Brewer), Betty Gabriel (Sophie Brewer), Phoenix Raei (Roshan Amiri), Abraham Lim (Ben Park), Adrian Grenier (Nick Brewer), Motell G Foster (Curtis Hamilton), and Jessie Collins (Emma Beesley), among others.

Or we could get an entirely new group of actors drafted in. After all, with the first outing have a definitive start and end, Clickbait could easily turn into an anthology series.

Clickbait season 2 plot: What will happen?

Creator Tony Ayers told Entertainment Weekly that he has ideas "for a season two or three", and Grenier certainly thinks there's scope for more.

"I think a lot of what the show is about is perspectives and incentives," he told Metro. "This could go on for a long time. I mean I think it's gonna keep fragmenting out, becoming more complex and more interesting."

As the final credits rolled, we were left with the knowledge that Nick had been killed. It was Dawn who had been doing the catfishing and her husband Ed who had dealt Nick the fatal blow, so no mystery there.

But like we said, there's always the possibility of spinning this into an anthology series, with an entirely new narrative and cast.
