Marvel star Chadwick Boseman was apparently so enthused about his version of Black Panther in What If…? that he discussed potential spin-off ideas.

The Disney+ series marks the actor's final role before his tragic death last year, with his episode exploring what would have happened had Yondu taken T'Challa as a child rather than Peter Quill/Star-Lord.

Director Bryan Andrews has now revealed that Boseman was hugely positive about the project, and was keen to explore the alternate version of his character further.

Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, he said: "We were already thinking of finding a way to do spin-offs and stuff like that of him and his crew to have these wonderful adventures, because [while] the character was so different, you can keep some of the virtue and some of the integrity and all the other important aspects of T'Challa as we know him, Black Panther, without necessarily the pressure of the kingdom Wakanda."

Explaining the star's enthusiasm during his private battle with cancer, Andrews further recalled: "His excitement level was awesome because he knew what he was going through – we didn't, similar to everybody except his closest inner circle.

"He wanted every chance he could to get T'Challa out there, and this was going to be one of those last chances. He was a super pro and wonderful and super amazing and we had no idea, you know? He brought so much to the role and he was into it and fun."

Meanwhile, Jeffrey Wright – who voices The Watcher – recently opened up about Boseman's performance in What If…?, admitting he was "really moved" to hear his performance.

"I actually first met him when Black Panther was being introduced at [San Diego] Comic-Con," he said.

"We saw each other from time to time after that and just to watch him grow as an actor and watch him take on this character, to see what that character meant, and to understand that he was doing that while facing serious challenges, I just find to be on the level of heroism that Black Panther himself is on.

"So to be a part of just a little bit of what some of his last work is really special. And I can't wait for folks to just hear him."

What If…? is available to stream on Disney+ now, with new episodes airing on Wednesdays.
