Marvel's What If…? writer AC Bradley has disclosed details about a Spider-Man storyline that was too adult to be shown.
After Loki unleashed a myriad of MCU timelines, the new Disney+ animated anthology series – which launches today (August 11) – will explore alternate corners of the Universe and what might have been.
However, in an interview with The Post-Credit Podcast, Bradley revealed that a story centred on Spider-Man transmogrifying into a "giant spider" would have resulted in too much "body horror" for the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Speaking about episodes that never passed pre-production, the writer said there were a couple of episodes that were "just a little too dark".
In one of the scrapped episodes, he explained: "Spider-Man turns into a real spider, and that was just too dark and too body horror for their PG-13 [rating]."

As noted by Collider, the banned What if..? episode could have been a reference to the 1990s Spider-Man: The Animated Series, which introduced Man-Spider, the final form of Peter Parker's spider-mutation that saw him go on a destructive spree.
What If…?'s first episode sees Peggy Carter as the Captain after taking super-serum, while the series will also feature the late Black Panther actor Chadwick Boseman's voice as four different versions of T'Challa.
