DC series DMZ adds NCIS and True Detective stars to cast

The Worlds of DC just keep getting bigger and bigger, as the upcoming DC TV series from Ava DuVernay expands its cast with stars from the likes of NCIS, True Detective and Marvel's Luke Cage.

Rosario Dawson and Benjamin Bratt were first announced for the mini-series DMZ, based on the DC Comics series, back in 2020, and now a host of new stars have jumped aboard Warner Bros' latest expansion into TV.

Mamie Gummer

True Detective and The Good Fight's Mamie Gummer joins as Rose, a jaded medic who tirelessly cares for the ill and injured regardless of the cost.

Jade Wu has also defected from Marvel to DC, with the Luke Cage star set to star in DMZ as Susie, a revolutionary whose past has shown her that the best of humanity can be discovered at its worst moments.

Other new cast members include Queen Sugar's Rutina Wesley and Henry G Sanders, The Big Leap star Nora Dunn, Animal Kingdom's Rey Gallegos, Funny Boy's Agam Darshi, and Juani Feliz.

The team behind the camera has also grown, with filmmaker Ernest Dickerson confirmed as DMZ's director and executive producer for three out of four of the series' episodes. Westworld's Emmy-winning Carly Wray is joining the crew, too.

Set in the not-so-distant future, DMZ imagines an America embroiled in a bitter civil war, with Manhattan now a demilitarized zone, destroyed and isolated from the rest of the world.

The synopsis for the upcoming HBO Max series continues: "[DMZ] chronicles the harrowing journey of fearless and fierce medic Alma Ortega (Rosario Dawson) to find the son she lost in the evacuation of New York City at the onset of the conflict.

"Throwing gasoline on the flames of that conflict is Parco Delgado (Benjamin Bratt), the popular, and deadly, leader of one of the most powerful gangs in the DMZ. He wants to rule this new world and will stop at nothing to secure that outcome.

"The drama will examine the stark political and cultural divide in American society, where Alma must contend with the gangs, militias, demagogues, and warlords that control this lawless no man's land.

"In doing so, she becomes the unlikely source of what everyone there has lost… hope."
