Batwoman season 2 spoilers follow.

Batwoman has confirmed that Dougray Scott, who played original Batwoman Kate Kane's dad Jacob, has left the show after not appearing in the last two episodes of season 2.

In season 2, episode 16, 'Rebirth', Jacob was arrested for his crimes and sent to Metropolis to face his punishment. Between that, the Crows disbanding and the season 2 finale departure of Kate (now played by Wallis Day after Ruby Rose left the show), it makes sense.

Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, showrunner Caroline Dries said: "The character obviously had a really intense storyline, the story was just lending itself of wrapping up the Crows because we took such a hard stance against police brutality this season and really used the Crows to represent the metaphor of that.

"For us, the story could really only end to Ryan's satisfaction [if the Crows were] shut down completely. To us, there was no version of the Crows that could exist that felt okay; that felt like a compromise.

"Once we kind of made that decision – and obviously Kate isn't staying on the show – this character of Jacob had sort of run its course, for better or for worse, through that storyline. So it worked out that it was mutual [with Dougray]. We ended up being able to really write to a good ending."

Having said that, a statement from the showrunner also said that the "door is always open" for his return, so maybe we haven't seen his final ever appearance on the show.

In other Batman-related TV show news, it was recently revealed that the Harley Quinn animated series had to cut a sex scene involving the Caped Crusader and Catwoman.

Batwoman season 2 is airing on The CW in the US. E4 airs the series in the UK.
