Power Book III star Mekai Curtis has revealed how his take on the lead character Kanan Stark will differ from the previous parts of the series.
The prequel will chronicle Kanan's early years in the 1990s, revisiting the character that was first played by the show's executive producer – Curtis '50 Cent' Jackson. The legendary rapper will narrate, produce and perform the theme song for this take on the Power story.
"I think younger Kanan differs from older Kanan in terms of the instinct and the feeling of what Kanan stood for," Mekai said in an interview with Entertainment Weekly.

"He's a 15-year-old kid trying to figure out who he is in life. He's trying to figure out how to move and adjust and be there for his family while also being there for himself.
"So that's a lot of what you'll get to see Kanan go through and struggle with... compared to how you find him so cool, calm, collected, and a little more ruthless when we find him in the original Power."
Mekai also discussed his "great" relationship with 50 Cent, describing him as a resource when he has questions about how he should be playing the character.

"Ever since the jump, he's just always been there," he said. "He's always got stories, whether Kanan was doing something that kind of resembled something he was doing when he was younger, or little nuggets.
"Between the, I think, seven or eight other shows that he's got in the air, whenever I get a chance to sit down and chop it with him, I take it."
Power aired on Starz in the US, and is available on Netflix in the UK. Power Book II: Ghost aired on Starz in the US and streams on Starzplay, available through Amazon Prime Video, in the UK.
