Outlander actor Sam Heughan has some choice advice for fans who visit the beautiful filming locations for the show.

Scenic parts of Scotland – such as Culloden near Inverness and Stirling's Doune Castle – have become popular for fans to come and live the magic of the TV show for themselves. However, it's been reported that some stones have been removed from the Culloden battlefield.

In an interview with The Sunday Times to promote the book Clanlands: Whisky, Warfare, and a Scottish Adventure Like No Other – co-written by Heughan with fellow Outlander star Graham McTavish, who plays Dougal MacKenzie – the pair urged fans to be respectful of these heritage sites.

"I certainly don't agree with people taking souvenirs," said McTavish.

"These places are to be shared by everybody and if you start dismantling them for your own selfish gain then that's not helping anybody at all."

McTavish and Heughan's book follows them road-tripping around Scotland and their discoveries about whisky, their home country and themselves.

"Hopefully, reading our book or other books, people will understand the history of what happened and treat historic sites with the respect they are due," Heughan added.

The Jamie Fraser actor also referred to being asked about what was under his kilt as "rather boring". "I'm still trying to think of a good answer," he added.

Another question Heughan is often asked is whether he would be interested in stepping into the role of James Bond, as Daniel Craig is due to step down after a 15-year run.

"Any actor that's been in a tuxedo is put on a list," he said. "Of course, everyone would jump at the chance."

Outlander airs on Starz in the US. The show streams on Amazon Prime Video in the UK.
