Russian Doll star Chloë Sevigny has teased what to expect from the second season of the Netflix series.

A hit with critics and viewers alike, the first season of Russian Doll followed New York video game developer Nadia (Natasha Lyonne) through a Groundhog Day-like nightmare as she repeated the day of her death (which also happens to be her 36th birthday) over and over again.

Now, for season two, it looks like the paradoxical storytelling is going to continue with the help of some time travel.

Speaking exclusively to Digital Spy, Sevigny, who plays Nadia's mother Lenora Vulvokov, revealed that we'll be seeing more of her character as the story unravels further.

"Well, the character comes back more. It still has… 'abstract' is not the word. There are some situations where… There is more time-travelling, maybe," she said.

Asked what it's like to work with Lyonne, a close friend of hers in real life, Sevigny said: "I'm just so proud of her. Just seeing her create this show, this character, and seeing her grow as an actor.

"I think the moments in Russian Doll where you see her vulnerable side is not something that people really associate her with."

"People always see her as this brash New Yorker who's smoking and [makes ar-ar-ar-ar noise]. And the moments where she's vulnerable on the show – I was in tears every time I was watching it," she laughed. "I think she doesn't get enough credit for her performance in those moments."

Sevigny, who also currently stars in the HBO drama We Are Who We Are, added that filming on the second season of Russian Doll was supposed to begin in the spring, but production was postponed due to the coronavirus pandemic.
