The Walking Dead star Chandler Riggs has shared his reaction to news that the show will be ending after season 11.
After AMC confirmed that the post-apocalyptic drama would be coming to a conclusion following an extended 24-episode instalment in 2022, the actor, who played Carl Grimes from 2010 to 2018, took to Twitter to air his thoughts about the bittersweet announcement.
"Truly the end of a legendary era in television," the 21-year-old wrote alongside a teaser for the horror series' final season. "I was the biggest fan of the show while I was on it, and will continue to watch until the very end and am so excited to see how it closes."

While The Walking Dead fans were understandably gutted that their time with the Alexandrians, Hilltoppers and more is to be cut shorter than they'd hoped, the blow was softened by the fact that AMC also revealed that two new spin-offs are in development.
According to the US broadcaster, one will focus on Daryl Dixon (Norman Reedus) and Carol Peletier (Melissa McBride), while the other will have more of an anthology feel and feature both old and current characters.
Jason Douglas, who played ill-fated survivor Tobin on the show, tweeted out details of the latter and joked: "SO, you're saying there's a CHANCE . . ."
Elsewhere, Reedus took to Instagram to post a candid shot of himself, McBride and former co-star Andrew Lincoln, whose Rick Grimes left the show back in season 9. In the behind-the-scenes snap, which was captured when the trio posed in character for an Entertainment Weekly cover back in 2015, the latter actors are seen sweetly holding hands.
Reedus kept the accompanying caption short and sweet, with a red heart emoji.
The Walking Dead's season 10 finale will air as a special episode on Monday, October 5 on FOX in the UK. You can also catch up on the show via NOW TV. In the US, the season 10 finale will air on Sunday, October 4 at 9pm on AMC.
