Pose season 2 spoilers follow.

Pose star Billy Porter has said that filming his sex scene in the FX drama's second season was a very "difficult" thing to do, because it was the first time he'd ever performed a romantic scene with another man.

Porter's Pose character Pray Tell decided to sleep with Ricky Wintour (Dyllón Burnside) in season two as their friendship turned romantic, a moment which caused quite a bit of drama among some of the other characters.

Porter told EW's The Awardist podcast that filming the intimate moment was a challenge, calling it "probably the hardest and most difficult thing for me to do".

"As a Black queer man who has lived in a space for 30 years of being the magical fairy on the side, of never, ever being the object of anyone's affection in anything in my entire career, ever... I've not had a kiss in anything," he said.

"Not on stage, not on nothing. I haven't been the object of anybody's affection."

He added that his on-stage kiss in musical Dreamgirls was a "different experience" because it was with a woman and so, as a gay man, he felt "detached from it".

Despite the fact that his Pose love scene meant a lot to him, the actor confessed that he has only managed to watch it back once because he just isn't used to seeing himself in sex scenes.

"I can't even watch it," he said. "Not because of what I look like, just because I'm still trying to find a space where I can be comfortable watching myself have sex on-screen.

"It is not easy to watch. I watched it with my husband the first time and we were both like... [grimaces]. We squealed!"

The actor also spoke about how he felt when he won an Emmy for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series for his role as Pray Tell last year, saying that it was like having an "out of body" experience.

"Everything goes into slow motion," he said. "It's like you're underwater. You want to make sure you say all the things that you want to say and thank all the people that you want to thank and you can't possibly do all of the things you want to do because you have 90 seconds!"

Porter has been nominated for the award again this year, a nod which he says he has "conflicting thoughts" about.

Pose airs on FX in the US and on BBC Two in the UK.
