Friends star Lisa Kudrow has said the show wouldn't have an all-white cast if it were filmed today.

The actress, who played Phoebe Buffay on the iconic NBC series, shared her belief that the show would have looked "completely different" if it was made now, including a far more diverse cast of series regulars.

"Oh, it'd be completely different," she told The Sunday Times.

"Well, it would not be an all-white cast, for sure. I'm not sure what else, but, to me, it should be looked at as a time capsule, not for what they did wrong."

She added: "Also, this show thought it was very progressive.

"There was a guy whose wife discovered she was gay and pregnant, and they raised the child together?

"We had surrogacy too. It was, at the time, progressive."

Kudrow's comments follow the HBO Max Friends reunion being indefinitely delayed due to the current coronavirus pandemic.

It was also recently revealed that the much talked about reunion could now happen via the use of a six-way video chat if the lockdown continues.

Friends airs daily on Comedy Central in the UK and is also streaming on Netflix in the UK.
