Musical drama Empire may yet return for more episodes, despite the show being scheduled to conclude its sixth and final season this month.

It was revealed a couple of weeks ago that due to the coronavirus crisis, Empire's production team hadn't managed to nail down the final two episodes, meaning the story faced an awkward end.

However, in a statement (via The Hollywood Reporter), co-creator Lee Daniels has shared some exciting news – hinting that the show will eventually get a proper ending.

Strong added: "We had an ending for the series planned that we all loved, and hopefully someday we'll be able to film it and give the series its proper conclusion.

"But we hope everyone tunes in to our last original episode, because the work done by our cast and crew deserves to be seen by the widest audience possible.

"Big thank you to Fox for being our home for these many years. And here's hoping this isn't the end!".

Empire airs on Fox in the US and 5STAR in the UK.
