The author of Outlander has criticised a "bad" and "awkward" love scene on the show.
Posting to Twitter on Sunday (March 22), Diana Gabaldon responded to a fan's claims that the sex scene shown on Sunday night's episode was "a disappointment".
While defending the actors, Diana blamed the scene on the show's technical crew.

In her reply, she wrote: "Bad dialogue, bad direction, bad lighting, awkward set. Actors did their level best with what they were given to work with."

One viewer was surprised by her criticism saying: "Goodness! Never known you to have been so critical! It must be so difficult for you when your creation is portrayed in an inferior way," to which Gabaldon replied: "Would y'all trust me when I say it's good, if I don't admit when it's noticeably not?"
However, she was quick to point out that she was not criticising the writers themselves, but moreso the technical aspects: "I think the writing this season is very good. Just that particular scene didn't come off well – and I wouldn't have commented on it had it not been a scene people were particularly waiting for."
Diana's comments about the sex scene follow season 5 deviating from her The Fiery Cross novel, the fifth in the Outlander book series, with one of its storylines.

Speaking recently about the storyline, Outlander star Caitriona Balfe told Digital Spy and other publications: "The writers have created this lovely storyline for me that is very challenging.
"That's been one of the great gifts of this show... the writers, everybody, they continue to push the boundaries."
Another Outlander change from the book series involved Murtagh (Duncan Lacroix) and Jocasta's (Maria Doyle Kennedy) budding romance.
Speaking about that, Maria Doyle Kennedy said: "I was wondering if the fans would accept it, because they were just getting to know Jocasta and they adore Murtagh so much, but actually people did."
Outlander season 5 airs on Starz in the US. The show streams on Amazon Prime in the UK.
