It looks like spy franchise 24 will remain on ice for a little while longer, as two TV spin-offs have been removed from Fox's plans.
Starring Kiefer Sutherland, the original series aired for 13 years and nine seasons, but the last version of the title came in 2017 with 24: Legacy (which ran for just 12 episodes).
According to Fox entertainment president Michael Thorn, the network recently binned a pair of ideas that would've included a Jack Bauer origins story (via TV Line).

"We had been circling two ideas for 24 spin-offs and those ideas are not moving forward. But we're constantly looking at other opportunities to keep the title resonant, for us and the fans," he explained.
"It's one of the most important titles at our network, so whatever we do with it we want it to fell as relevant and as explosive as the original — and that's hard. We're all committed to finding another version of it, but only when it's right."

With light still potentially at the end of the tunnel for 24, Sutherland's previous comments about returning "as long as the story is good" may yet point towards present-day Bauer ripping up the small screen once again, instead of trying to introduce new blood.
