Note: This article contains spoilers for Runaways season 3, particularly episodes 9 and 10.
When the final season of Marvel's Runaways was released last week, fans were probably expecting to get a happy ending... and they almost did.
In the series' final episode, a future version of Chase (Gregg Sulkin) was able to time travel back to the showdown against Morgan le Fay (Elizabeth Hurley), as seen in episode 9, and ensure that the battle was won and that Gert (Ariela Barer) didn't die this time.
With the whole group back together at the end of the closing episode, all seemed good for the teens... until Alex found a mysterious note in his pocket.
At the end of the final episode, Alex (Rhenzy Feliz) found a note that had been left to him by an evil future version of himself that told him to 'Infiltrate Innovators, hide Mancha and kill Nico'.
Speaking to Entertainment Weekly about the scenes, showrunners Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage explained why they decided to end the series on a cliffhanger after it was cancelled by Hulu last month.

"We had planned a finale that could go either way, for the reason that we felt like that would not be clear to us by the time we had finished breaking this season," Savage said.
"It was clear to us that the future of the show was going to be a bit out of our hands," Schwartz added. "And so we wanted to ensure that the finale was as satisfying as possible."
Schwartz also explained that they wanted the ending to leave them with "the potential for another story out there whether it's something that we get to see onscreen or something that lives on in the imagination of the audience".
Savage added: "I think the most important thing was we just wanted the audience to feel like this group was very much together, solidified as a family, and that if they were hoping their last runaway adventure was in the rearview mirror they were probably wrong about that and there would be more to come."
Marvel's Runaways airs on Hulu in the US while Syfy airs the show in the UK.
