Jack Ryan season 3 release date: When does Jack Ryan season 3 air?

It took a while but we finally know that Jack Ryan season three will drop on Prime Video on Wednesday, December 21.

Like the two seasons before it, season three will run for eight episodes.

In even better news, the show has already been confirmed for a fourth season, but that will be the final season. There's not yet a release date for the final season, although hopefully we won't be waiting as long.

Jack Ryan season 3 trailer: Watch the Jack Ryan season 3 trailer here!

The first trailer for Jack Ryan season 3 was released in October 2022 and if you missed it above, you can check it out below:

The footage sees the titular CIA financial analyst gone AWOL, with his superior James Greer warning him: "Every day you're on the run, you're digging a hole that you may not be able to get out of..."

It turns out a "small group" of Russians have formed a plan to preserve the USSR, and this involves detonating a nuclear strike.

As Jack jumps to action he claims: "It was never just about a nuke, this is about starting a World War!"

Jack Ryan season 3 cast: Who's coming back for Jack Ryan season 3?

John Krasinski will obviously resume his role as Jack Ryan and he'll be joined again by Wendell Pierce as James Greer.

It looks like Greer is finally done with fieldwork given his heart problems, which caused havoc throughout season two. We'd say he's earned a nice spot of desk duty after being held captive.

With Greer likely to take on a more administrative role, Ryan will be needing a new field partner.

It was previously thought that Michael Kelly, who played CIA field officer Mike November, wouldn't be back. But it's since been reported by that he will feature in the upcoming episodes.

Betty Gabriel (Get Out, Clickbait) has replaced Marianne Jean-Baptiste (Blindspot) as Elizabeth Wright, the Chief of Station (via Deadline). According to the publication, Baptiste left the role due to "creative differences".

Other new cast members include:

• James Cosmo (His Dark Materials, Game of Thrones) as Luca
• Peter Guinness (Cursed) as Petr
• Nina Hoss (Homeland) as Alena
• Alexej Manvelov (Before We Die) as Alexei

Amazon has also announced that Michael Peña will be joining the cast in an undisclosed role. This was later revealed to be Domingo Chavez, a member of the CIA who was a regular feature in a number of Clancy's novels.

In fact, he's someone we should be keeping an eye on, considering reports via Deadline that after season four wraps, there's a potential Domingo will lead a spin-off.

Peña's credits include the Ant-Man movies, Terence in the live-action animation of Tom and Jerry, American Hustle and the Netflix series Narcos: Mexico.

In related Jack Ryan casting news, Zuleikha Robinson and Okieriete Onaodowan have been announced to be joining the cast of season four.

Each are said to be regulars for the action series, Robinson will take the role of Zeyara and Onaodowan will be playing Adebayo 'Ade' Osoji.

What's more, Deadline has reported that Abbie Cornish's Cathy Mueller, who was noticeably absent from season two, will be making a comeback in the future.

A fan-favourite, Cathy Mueller's story feels unfinished and vast swathes of fans have demanded answers regarding her exit. Fans will just have to wait until season four for her comeback though.

Her return (reported via Deadline) will no doubt address the mystery surrounding the abrupt end to Cathy and Ryan's romance. The two weren't given a proper end to their relationship, the only clue being a throwaway mention of Jack being single.

Though there was not a single mention of her in season two, fans will be eager to find out what happened to Cathy, and whether or not she and Jack will rekindle their relationship.

Currently, the creators have remained tight-lipped as there is no information on how Cathy will make her return. Hopefully, it’s more satisfying than her exit.

Jack Ryan season 3 plot: What will happen in Jack Ryan season 3?

We have our release date and a trailer, and we also have a synopsis for Jack's next mission:

"When CIA analyst Jack Ryan stumbles upon a suspicious series of bank transfers his search for answers pulls him from the safety of his desk job and catapults him into a deadly game of cat and mouse throughout Europe and the Middle East, with a rising terrorist figurehead preparing for a massive attack against the US and her allies."

Yikes! That all sounds very exciting to us.
